中国对英国2008年超过150亿美元的贸易顺差

中英贸易存在赤字，源自两国经济结构的差异。英国过度依赖金融服务业，而中国的制造业比例过大（占国民经济超过60%），对国际市场依赖严重（出口占年度GDP的35%左右）。

中国拥有近2万亿美元外汇储备，规模为全球之最

在总储备中，约1.7万亿是投资于美元资产，中国政府因此成为美国最大的债主。去年，在国内经济经受巨大压力之时，中国仍借给美国逾4000亿美元，相当于中国国内生产总值(GDP)的10%以上

中国央行——已成为持有美国国债最多的外国机构，去年持有比例增加15%，至将近7000亿美元。

外国投资者目前大约持有3万亿美元的美国国债，即公开发行总额的一半多。
